Webinar on Circular Economy Trend in North-East Asia

  • I.Introduction
  • Following the closing of COP26 in Glasgow in November 2021, governments and corporates around the world have made the pledges, which include “2030 emission reduction target” and “net-zero economy”. The critical solution to net zero is to reduce the development of the original material and to use the existing resources more efficiently.
  • After the Korean parliament took effect the “Carbon Neutral Green Growth Framework Act” in March 2022, Korea became the 14th country that makes carbon neutrality legislative. To incentivize the green operation of companies and the commercialization of green technologies, the government has made policies to support the green industry by enlarging the investment in green finance and technical development.
  • The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), Japan has the view that to consider economic growth, 2050 net zero-emission, and the 46% GHG reduction in 2030 compared to 2013, it’s necessary to push the green transition and increase the industrial competition, which makes the green industry becomes the leader of economic growth.
  • SEA countries are stepping up to plastic waste and pollution issues. Particularly Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia, which have made the circular economy roadmap, and actively implement the policies related to plastics recycling.
  • To make domestic SMEs understand more about how NEA and SEA countries react to the 2050 net-zero targets, promote the green industry, and use the circular economy as the solution to net zero. In the meantime, we would also take this opportunity to introduce Taiwanese high-quality green technologies and products to these oversea markets.
