VMWare Device/Credential Guard Error

Experienced this issue on Windows 10 trying to get a VMWare virtual machine to start. I’d already disabled Hyper-V in Windows Features, but the VM still wouldn’t start.

Unfortunately the VMware instructions were useless.

Issue

Can’t start a VMWare Virtual Machine on Windows 10. Error message:

VMware Workstation and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible. VMware Workstation can be run after disabling Device/Credential Guard. Please visit http://www.vmware.com/go/turnoff_CG_DG for more details

Cause

Hypervisor enabled — restricts windows 10 to use only internal Hyper-V software, not competitors

Solution

Open CMD/Powershell as Admin

Enter this string:

bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off

Then restart machine.
