‘Tis the Season!
Between holiday-ish parties, a plethora of options for shopping local in interesting ways and the usual array of events… there’s quite a bit going on. Before all that though… Did you know that shopping local — in other words, buying from places that are locally owned and operated — makes a big difference in our community and quality of life in general? One way to make that a bit easier is to find and download the KeepitQuerque app (for Android & iOS) here. And if you do — and happen to use social media — why not share with the tag #shoplocal or #buylocal? It helps remind others, makes friends and all sorts of other good things. Just do it.
A few quick announcements:
First, congrats and thanks to Dorian Rader who’s become a go-to person for so many things, because she gets s#%t done! She’s now the youngest (and 2nd woman) to run a venture investment fund, NMA Ventures (Read about it from Kevin Robinson-Avila in the ABQJournal here).
Second, there are lots of interesting conversations and work afoot around “Blockchain” (the technology that underlies Bitcoin, Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies). To help inform, connect and elevate the knowledge level about Blockchain locally, we’re launching a new series/meetup on Monday, December 18th at Free Range Coworking. Join us to learn about launching an ICO from Solve Maxwell and discuss how we can continue to grow our community (sign up here!).
Finally, there’s a lot of talk (and some reality) about losing some of New Mexico’s best and brightest students — and trying to bring some of them back. Maggie Werner-Washburne and some key folks at UNM have teamed up with Lavu and the NM Tech Council to host a two-day symposium on changing this equation — and they’re looking for higher tech businesses (especially those with advanced hiring needs) to participate.
