Ironwood Forest National Monument abuts Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range, and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base has factored that into its strategic planning, said Pima County Supervisor Sharon Bronson.
“If we shrink that, we put at risk our number one employer in Tucson,” she said.
It also puts at risk the number-one giver of life in the desert.
“You know, in the desert, whiskey may be for drinking but water is for fighting,” she said.
“We need to protect that watershed. That’s another important part of the monument.”
