Disrupt with Impact: Achieve Business Success in an Unpredictable World by Roger Spitz is a guide for those in business to prepare, harness, and plan for disruptions in the business world. The book is tailored to help you make informed decisions. As we have observed, there are lots of technological advancements that have taken place in the past, and more are coming. The Disruptive Thinking Canvas serves as a roadmap with practical steps to develop strategies that put you in the best position in your industry for the future. The book covers topics like how to explore the challenges and possibilities of disruptions, tools for navigating disruptions, emerging industries and trends, how to stay relevant in the age of AI, and a lot more.

The world is constantly evolving, and only those who can quickly adapt to change will stay at the top. In the business world, disruptions come and go, but a smart business owner knows how to use these disruptions to their advantage. The book prepares you to face any unpredictable events and make strategic plans for the future. It empowers you to thrive by always being prepared and being one step ahead of competitors, despite any challenges that may arise. Disruptions are not to be feared as they have always existed; take, for instance, the World Wars, the Great Depression, and COVID-19.

I learned a great deal about innovation and building a positive business mindset through the book. One of my favorite chapters is the one titled “Scanning the Horizon.” It talks about trends, analyzes trends, and explains how disruptions can occur. Books like this are meant to educate readers, and I think the formatting of the book improved the reading experience greatly. I liked the bullet points, tables, case studies, and notes; they helped me understand better.

The author explains key terms in detail using examples that readers can relate to. The author brings his wealth of knowledge and expertise as a futurist and venture capitalist into writing the book, and I must commend the amount of research done in putting this together, as evident in the notes and references. One thing I also liked is that, despite how knowledgeable the author is, he still tries to explain core concepts in a way that an average reader will understand. So rest assured that the book is not filled with technical jargon that might surprise you. This is an engaging and very enlightening read. It’s the kind of book you can always refer to in the future, and I’m sure the content will prove valuable to anyone in business, regardless of your industry.
