One Detail From Hamilton You Might Have Missed
Wait for it…
Lin Manuel Miranda’s smash hit musical Hamilton has been wowing audiences on Broadway for little over a year now, but there’s one little detail even the most avid fans might have missed.
Famed for its lyrical complexities and sophisticated score, turns out Miranda just couldn’t help sneaking some Easter eggs into the stage performance too.
Take a look at this iconic still from the second half opener “What’d I Miss?” performed by Daveed Diggs.
Notice anything?
Ok fine, there’s a lot going on, we’ll give you a hint…
Haven’t got a clue? You’re going to kick yourself when you see it….
Still don’t see it!?
That’s right.
Thomas Jefferson.
Is Black.
Like, throughout the whole musical.
Black.
The whole time.
The. Whole. Time.
It’s yet another testament to Miranda’s genius that elements of the musical can still surprise and delight fans even after a 13 month Broadway run a record-breaking Billboard 200 stint. And who knows, maybe there are dozens of other ethnicity hidden away within the show that we haven’t discovered yet!
Hamilton, the gift that keeps giving.
P.S. Special thanks to my friends Scott and ‘White Mike’ for pointing this out to me!
