The 2019–20 and 2020–21 District Calendars have been posted for a 30-day public review and comment. The Board is expected to take action on the calendars at their December 12, 2018 Meeting.

In 2015, the Board began a new process of posting and subsequently adopting a 2-year calendar. A Calendar Committee, comprised of teachers and support staff from elementary, middle and high schools, along with several District office administrators, gathered feedback from parents, staff and this year, from high school students.

Feedback indicated a desire to move high school finals and the end of 1st semester before Winter Break. An overwhelming 76% of high school students surveyed expressed a desire to move finals and end of semester before Winter Break saying that moving finals would reduce stress.

A significant amount of work will need to take place for this transition. Curriculum and assessments at all levels will need to be adjusted to account for the shortened 1st semester and other date changes like start date and Institute Days. To allow for planning and transition time for both staff and families, the proposed 2019–20 Calendar mirrors the current 2018–19 Calendar with the only change being the last day of school will be a ½ day for all students.

The proposed 2020–21 Calendar has high school finals and end of the semester before the Winter Break. In order to accommodate this change, the first day of school for grades 1–12 will be Monday, August 17. The last day of school will continue to be a ½ day for all students.

The calendar presentation is available by following this link. Questions and comments can be directed to Dr. Charlie Kyle, Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services, at 630–682–2015 or charles.kyle@cusd200.org.
