Mr. Phil Culcasi and Mr. Rob Harvey, both teachers at Wheaton Warrenville South High School, were recently recognized by the Board of Education at the February 9 Meeting. Mr. Culcasi and Mr. Harvey were joined by Wheaton Warrenville South Principal Mr. Scott McDermott at the meeting.

Mr. Phil Culcasi currently serves as the Science Department Chair at Wheaton Warrenville South and has served our students for the past 20 years. Mr. Culcasi was recently recertified by the National Board Certification. National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in education and provides numerous benefits to teachers, students and schools. It was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide. Mr. Culcasi was previously certified in 2012. At the meeting, Superintendent Dr. Schuler noted that becoming Board Certified is no easy task and to have been certified now twice is rare and is indicative of Mr. Culcasi’s dedication to his profession and students. Mr. Culcasi was also recently named an Illinois Golden Apple Finalist. The Golden Apple Foundation is the leading Illinois nonprofit committed to preparing, honoring and supporting educators who advance educational opportunities for students. Congratulations, Mr. Culcasi!

Mr. Rob Harvey has taught physical education at Wheaton Warrenville South for the past 23 years and has coached girls track & field for 23 years and girls cross country for 21 at the school. He was recently inducted into the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame. The Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame was established in 1977 to honor women and men who have made significant contributions to the sports of Track & Field and Cross Country in the State of Illinois. In order to receive consideration by the Hall of Fame Committee, the candidate must have provided 20 years of service to Track & Field and/or Cross Country and some of those years must have been in Illinois. At the meeting, Mr. Harvey noted that in all his years, his focus has been on the kids and their experiences and that this recognition is appreciated. Congratulations, Mr. Harvey!
