District 200 School Community,

Over the past few weeks, the Board of Education has received and read over 700 emails on the topic of mitigations for the 2021–2022 School Year. We recognize and appreciate that each email represents the face of your family, your passion, and your point of view. We understand that there is a division within our community right now regarding COVID-19 mitigations and the school environment. Everyone in our community has a common goal: we want our students to have a high-quality educational experience in an environment that is safe for our students and staff.

At the July 14th Board of Education Meeting, the Board discussed plans to start the school year. Since that time, guidance to school districts from national, state and local health agencies has continued to be updated and modified. In order for the Board of Education to have a discussion, we must hold an open meeting. Therefore, the Board of Education will be holding a Special Meeting on Wednesday, August 11th at 5:30 p.m. at Hubble Middle School for the purpose of reviewing and discussing the recent guidance and how that may or may not impact the District’s plan for the start of the school year.

As Board Members, we approach our discussions with empathy and respect for all points of view. If you will be in attendance at this meeting, we ask that you do the same.

We very much look forward to finalizing our plans on how we will start the upcoming school year. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate these uncharted waters together.

Sincerely,
The District 200 Board of Education
