Terri Garwood, Reading teacher at Sandburg Elementary said, “I want to put books in kids hands”, Barb Bussman said, “let’s do it!” and so it began.

On Saturday, March 21 morning, District Print Shop Coordinator Jeff Ebert began printing a wide selection of leveled books and by mid-afternoon, Sandburg staff Barb Bussman, Gail Kramer, Susan Benoit, Sarita Potas, and Terri Garwood with husbands at their sides, bagged books at the District Office parking lot to distribute to the homes of awaiting students.

Even a Johnson parent arriving to pick up a chromebook for his kids was given a selection to choose from.

It was a school-wide effort as classroom teachers also alerted their students that book bags were on their way.

“This was a big job! I am happy to do something meaningful on this sunny day with great colleagues,” said Gail Kramer. The feeling was shared by all.

It is the hope of all Sandburg teachers and principal Aaron Bacon that all students continue to read at home.
