Scott McDermott will be the new principal of Wheaton Warrenville South High School beginning in the 2020–21 School Year. Mr. McDermott will take over from Mr. Dave Claypool who is retiring in June after 10 years of dedicated service in District 200.

Mr. McDermott comes to District 200 with strong administrative, instructional, special education and coaching experience. Mr. McDermott received his B.S. in Special Education from Northern Illinois University, an M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University and received his Administrative Certification from National Louis University.

Coming from Prospect High School where he has been since 2009, Mr. McDermott has served as the Associate Principal for Instruction, the Division Head of Special Education and coached the speech team to four Top 5 team finishes. Prior to serving in an administrative role, Mr. McDermott was a special education teacher and assistant dean at Glenbrook South High School for 15 years.

Superintendent Jeff Schuler is excited to welcome Mr. McDermott to District 200 and Wheaton Warrenville South High School. “His experience, passion, and excitement for learning will only build upon the culture and tradition already established at the school,” says Schuler.

Mr. McDermott was honored to accept the position at Wheaton Warrenville South. “The minute I stepped into Wheaton Warrenville South, I immediately fell in love with and completely understood what I had heard about the culture of kindness, support, and excellence, as well as the deep tradition. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to join this amazingly talented staff and school community and I’m looking forward to learning from and growing with them,” says McDermott.
