3 Small-Bet Side Hustles That Aren’t Worth It - And One That Is

Do you enjoy hustling for $5 a month? I didn’t think so.

Everyone wants to make a bit of bread on the side. There’s a million different side hustles you can choose from, but some really aren’t worth the time it takes to generate a profit.

It’s really important to be smart with the way you spend your side-income-generating time, and not just throw low-profit spaghetti at a wall, hoping for the best.

Be strategic, be focused and don’t waste your time!

Medium

Sorry! When you approach Medium strictly from a time vs. profits point of view, it’s not worth it. A lot of the advice I’ve seen to get to significant earnings mentions things like posting multiple articles a day, also maintaining a community or newsletter, transcribing all your articles on YouTube, etc. Sometimes for years.

That’s so much work!

There’s a lot of reasons to have a Medium account of course, like if you’re aiming to write professionally, use it as a funnel for a paid product or like me, you just want to practice and make friends. But if you’re only in it for the cash, pick something else to spend your time on.

Zazzle & Redbubble

Sounds nice in theory. Just upload a design and it gets placed on 100 print on demand items. No fulfillment! No marketing! But in reality the margins are so incredibly low on these products and there’s millions of designs to compete with.

The amount of listings you need to upload just to earn $0.24 on a sticker is way too insane. If you want to do Print On Demand, put in a bit more strategic effort and start an Etsy shop or something.

Uploading A.I. images to stock photo sites

This one is the trifecta of a time wasting side hustle. Extremely low profits, massive amounts of time to produce assets, and you better believe Shutterstock and Adobe are working on their own AI art creation tools which will one day soon make your entire library obsolete over night.

And as promised, one small bet that is worth it:

ZBD

I’m a big fan of getting paid for stuff I was going to do anyway. This is an app where you can play popular mobile games and get paid in Bitcoin. There’s a lot of ‘get paid to play apps’ but I like that this one is just Bitcoin and not some scammy points or token system.

Sometimes I just want to relax and play some random match-3-build-your-farm game for an hour. Might as well get paid for it!

And it doesn’t hurt that the price of Bitcoin keeps going up so my digital farm profits have increased without me doing anything.

Setting up a new income stream of course takes time and effort, but there’s a certain point where the amount of time far outweighs the potential payoff.

The goal should be working smarter, maximising your return on investment and not grinding yourself into the ground.
