Many people think they need some things to be happy, like success, money, youth, or love. However, studies show these things only make you happy for a little while. We quickly get used to new things, and our happiness goes back to where it was before.

The truth is, you can increase your state of happiness by changing how you see things and what you focus on.

Here are some simple ways you can do that:

1. Practice seeing the positive: As humans, we’re naturally good at noticing bad things and potential threats, which was a way to help us survive back in the days. But now, staying extremely alert and cautious is not as needed, and it can make you unhappy and even depressed.

Having a habit of seeing the surrounding good will make you feel a lot happier, and it’s also free.

2. Value your relationships: Happy people often have strong friendships and close family ties. To increase your state of happiness, invest time into building and enjoying these rare and beautiful relationships.

3. Live in the moment: Worrying about the past or future can make you feel unhappy, and it doesn’t help solve the problem you’re worried about. Instead of that, try to focus on the present moment and, you will in no time feel more content and peaceful.

4. Help others: Doing things for others and making a positive impact can make you feel good about life and the universe as a whole. This can be as simple as volunteering, being kind in daily life, or using your expertise or knowledge to contribute to your local community.

5. Look after your health: Being physically active and getting enough sleep are important for feeling good. Find a type of exercise you enjoy and like and try to make it a regular part of your life and routine.

The reason you have to enjoy and like it is that you need to make it a lifestyle and a commitment, not just a one-time resolution.

You don’t need millions of dollars to build a happier and more fulfilling life, you can still be happy without all the things people often think are needed to live a happy life.
