According to Axios, a majority of Americans are concerned the government won’t do enough to regulate tech — up 15 points in 3 months.

The “fake news” problem is a clear contributor, with over half believing social media hurts democracy and free speech more than it helps, but some of the biggest hurdles may be on the how side of the equation.

Americans still love tech as an industry (proved out in surveys by Axios and Edelman Intelligence), but Silicon Valley can’t continue to rely on positive regard alone. It’s time for tech to get smart about working with Washington. The industry is changing every day, and Congress isn’t keeping up. How can you solve a problem you don’t understand?
