Veggie Delight
August 28, 2017: Sanur, Bali, Indonesia

Real life update — I’m still in Bali, having a great time exploring, but I am SO ready to get back to my little Lembongan and back underwater! Bali is a bit of a strange place to me, having traveled quite a bit around other parts of SE Asia. It’s too easy to get comfortable here, and I think I have a guilt complex about comfort when traveling. Is that a thing? Maybe I’ve just been “traveling” for so long that I’ve forgotten how to be on “vacation.” There’s a difference, I promise!
One thing I love about Bali: the food. Indonesian food is generally underwhelming, but the island’s Hindu culture and yoga hippie expats— bless them — have made it even easier to be a vegetarian here than in tree-hugging San Francisco. So easy, in fact, that I accidentally became one last time I was here! It’s true, I became a vegetarian by chance. But I stayed one by choice, and nearly four months into this herbivorous life, I honestly don’t miss meat that much. Maybe because I just eat cake now… kidding. But really, the only thing I crave on the regular is bacon.
And now, a haiku:
Your shine and sizzle
The scent of you as I woke
I miss you, bacon
Aaand that’s the end of this short post! Brb, going to eat tempe at a temple.
