“Just another event that shows the amazing things that our students do here on campus,” was how professor Lynnette Leonard, the head of the journalism and mass communication department on American University in Bulgaria, expressed her emotions about the Showcase.

Student showcase on AUBG is organized by JMC department. It is a very honoring an important event for all the students invited to participate. “Showing students work is one of the greatest liberal arts system traditions,” said professor Leonard, “Making the bound between students and professors is crucial for students future and carrier.”

The organizing of such an event is, according to professor Leonard, rather easy. Taken that all the professors are proud of their students work “only problem that they have would be the time limitation,” professor Leonard said. The event is divided in 15 minutes per professor, where each of them “snips the best out of all of their classes.”

“Most of the students were very honored to have the opportunity to present their work,” she said. “The event has also an enormous value for their CVs and portfolio,” added professor Leonard. Taken that their case was chosen among many others, their presentation on the event might could serve as a big reference the students future. “It also gives them a big experience by reflecting the professional, working environment,” was explained by her.

One of the chosen students was Daria Biryukova, senior, majoring in JMC and Mathematics. She along with her friend Fatme Tisko were chosen by Marie Elliott, documentary and film making professor.

Daria presented her short documentary “No Point Atelier.” “It was about Miro, an artist from the village of Gabrovo, who created a home-based atelier where all the artist can work together,” said Daria. It was one-day, well-prepared, recording financed by the AUBG itself.

“We had 15 main questions with 15 questions about his work,” said Daria. “He works with Analog Illustrations, which differs from the digital illustrations by not allowing any mistakes,” she explained, “that was another reason why he was chosen for our movie.”

“It shows that all the projects that one does here have some potential, that they are not going to be forgotten and that they will have a great value for our future,” said Daria about the importance of JMC Showcase. “I was really happy that I was chosen among so many good students,” she said, “knowing that your project is an example for good work, makes you appreciate it more.”
