2023 is all about authenticity and originality. Being able to create individualized outfits is what will set you apart this season. In the words of Drag legend Bob the Drag Queen, you must walk in your purse first. In other words, show your confidence and style through the accessories you choose to adorn your outfit with.

While sustainability in the fashion industry gains more awareness, consumers purchase items slowly and look deeper at their quality. Instead of buying a new wardrobe, try enhancing it by slowly purchasing accessories such as handbags. A handbag can enhance or diminish an outfit, and purchasing the right one can be challenging.

Take a look at some recent handbag releases that can help enhance your wardrobe or inspire you;

Mowalola

The Mowalola bundle bag has become a cult accessory amongst those who love bags from brands like Telfar and Homage Year. The bag is perfect for lovers of unique colors and prints, featuring a simple crescent-shaped design. The enclosure is a zipper along the top, with a thick shoulder strap etched with Mowalola in bold lettering. The bag comes in bright colors such as orange, pink, yellow, and purple and a blinding acid cow print. The large version of the bag measures 14 inches in length and 16 inches in height, making it a large statement piece. On the other hand, the medium option measures 8 inches in length and 12 inches in height.

Diesel

Diesel took over the fashion industry with the 1dr diesel bag. A brand that once found itself filing for bankruptcy in 2019 is now one of the hottest brands debuting its new collection in the Milan 2023 fashion week. The brand has taken a bold approach with genderless denim designs and colorful unisex shoulder bags. Their collection features genderless Y2K designs with large top logos.

Blumarine

Blumarine has seen a revival thanks to new creative director Nicola Brognano. Once a brand known for simple knitwear, slip dresses, and cardigans that show midriff, it has transformed into a Y2K dream. Brognano has reconstructed their simple designs and paired them with everything the Y2K revival has offered. The brand has since released mini bags with rhinestone logos, messenger bags, bags made from denim, buckled bags, and heart-shaped fur bags.

Loewe

Loewe is a Spanish brand known for its high-quality craftsmanship. Taken over by creative director Jonathan Anderson in 2013, Loewe has slowly crept to the top of the industry each year. Anderson stays true to the classic look of Loewe bags while painting them in new colors and more detailed designs. Making old Loewe designs feel modern while ensuring they will remain in your closet for years to come, unlike most trending bags. Their newest bag, the Paseo, comes in Dark Butter, Burgundy, Light Mauve, Emerald, and Khaki Green, complete with flower adornment. The brand also offers the options of leather handles or metal chain shoulder straps. At the same time, the silhouette is an elongated bucket shape with pleats on each side—the exterior features calfskin, with suede lining on the interior. Loewes’ 2023 bags emphasize shapes, texture, movement, drapes, folds, and oversized proportions.

Ferragamo

New creative director Maximillian Davis has redefined classic Ferragamo styles. Davis’s collection combines his style and the Italian fashion house’s archives this season. My favorite designs include his black bags, red cut-out detailing, and red ombre designs. This signature red comes from Davis’s previous work in his collections. The signature color is now shown across all of the brand’s garments. The new collection of bags explores old designs seen through Davis’s eye, with unique updates on classic styles.

Fendi

Another brand going back to its archives for inspiration, Fendi has embraced its past in bold colors, textures, and logos. Rereleasing the classic peekaboo with chain straps in pink and silver. The brand has also redesigned the Fendi First bag and placed it in patent leather and fur. Fendi has also revamped their Fendiagraphy bag, adding bright colors and shearling.
