Are you looking for more sustainable fabrics? Getting more creative with looks for you and your friends? Fabrics are sometimes more pricey than we’d like. But have you tried creating from fabrics that offer more sustainability and some potentially lower cost over time?

A couple of benefits of using sustainable fabrics according to Linen Reform are you would be “Getting a better sleep naturally through sustainable bedding, Organic Cotton and Linen Actually Save on Important Resources and less waste and more quality wear”. If you are searching online or in stores for what to see to know if it is the best option for you, one of the first materials should say 100% organic. Something 100% organic is the best quality for you!

Here are the top three sustainable fabrics that you should look into and buy in 2023

  1. Organic Cotton

~ The first best fabric to use is Organic cotton, it is like synthetic cotton that is used for clothes but instead of using synthetic materials, it is 100 % cotton. According to the Organic Cotton market, it states that “No pesticides, harmful chemicals, or genetically modified seeds (GMOs) are used in organic cotton cultivation. This type of cotton is natural, skin-friendly, and perfect for any fabric-based product, from clothes to organic cotton bed sheets to reusable canvas grocery bags….. When buying something made from organically grown cotton, it’s always good to check if it’s certified. USDA certification, GOTS, OCS, Bluesign, Fair Trade, and Oeko-Tex 100 are some certifications to look out for.”

2. Organic Bamboo

~ The next best fabric is organic bamboo, it is relatively harder to find than other organic/ sustainable materials like organic cotton.

According to the Organic Cotton market, it says “Bamboo fiber is taking over the fashion industry as a renewable, energy-efficient fabric. It’s a high-yield crop that uses less water and can be grown without synthetic substances…. Word of caution, though, a lot of clothing labeled “bamboo” is usually made from mechanically processed bamboo, known as viscose rayon.”

This can be used for things like sheets, blankets, and household items like that. This is the most common fabric to use because of its softness and durability

3. Recycled PET

~Lastly, is Recycled PET(Polyethylene terephthalate). PET is the most recycled plastic material in the world. According to the Organic Cotton market it states “Using recycled PET saves it from landfills and puts it in a consumer cycle that could become closed-looped sooner than you think. Companies are now using post-consumer milk jugs and PET bottles and turning them into high-quality material fit to make clothes, stretch athleisure, and fuzzy fleece winterwear.”

If you want to make the change use more sustainable fabrics! It states on The Good Trade that clothing brands like Everyone, Pact, and Potn use sustainable fabrics for some things. If you are looking to buy sustainable fabrics, go by arts or craft shops, big stores like Walmart or wholesalers online. A lot of stores now are made up of fast fashion items, but there are still shops that use more sustainable fashion products and fabrics.
