Awakened by Birdsong
What delicious sweetness!
Our ears open first
inviting eyes and bodies to a new chapter
in this dream we call life.
Songbirds greet the dawn,
not with faith or trust
but with knowing.
So must I, it seems.
Delicious birdsong, delivered fresh
before the Sun’s rays lift above the peaks, reminds me.
A literal re-minding of fresh possibilities
for a new day, a new way.
Numbers of Canada Geese swell,
increasing the volume of morning flock to hundreds,
taking wing into the Sun.
My heart never tires of this miracle,
brought by a new day.
Sorting, squabbling, aligning in V formation,
the geese beeline Eastward, following Earth’s
turning toward light and life.
Trees outside a childhood window, fondly remembered,
remind me of their morning stretches,
their intake and outbreath shifting,
shoulders loosening, arms lifted to the cyclic renewal of light.
