Drama, drama, and more drama. All it takes to ruin a perfectly nice normal day, is a little dose of drama. Thankfully, this was a day where we welcomed drama with open arms. The stage was set inside the Western Province Aesthetic Centre. Following the welcome speech, the curtains were drawn, and the show had begun. This was the Encore 2017 Preliminaries.

In case you’re lost, Encore is an inter-club drama competition. Organized by Division J, this is a competition that’s open to Toastmasters in clubs across District 82. Born in 2015, Encore primary goals are to help build inter-club relations and introduce a new concept to the Toastmasters community.

The preliminaries in a nutshell

Once the curtain was drawn, the show had begun! One after another we were treated to multiple dramas by teams from 15 clubs across District 82. We saw murder mysteries, love stories, comedies, scientific debates and a lot more. Never let it be said that Toastmasters can’t whip up a story and create some drama.

If we were to tell the stories we saw on stage in excruciating detail, then we would end up writing a book. Yet there was one thing every story had in common. Every Toastmaster that we saw take the stage gave it their all to give a stunning performance.

However, as with speech contests, there could only be a few talented winners at the Encore 2017 preliminaries. After a debate amongst the judges that lasted days, the results were finalized.

The winners of the Encore 2017 Preliminaries were: Lyceum Nugegoda Toastmasters Club, APIIT Toastmasters Club, NDB Toastmasters Club, Pinnacle Advanced Toastmasters Club Team B, and HSBC Toastmasters Club.
