Idea: A “Loading bar playlist” that shows all tapped to load Stories that are higher in your scroll area so you can easily access those Stories without requiring to scroll up, & playback on the top list is done in order of selecting people to load 4.25.2016 (#129)

Purpose is to make easy to both tap to load Stories and then to actually tap to view those Stories as you continue to look through the list to determine which people you want to watch.

Start on Stories view, tap to load a story, scroll to show loading Story goes into a playlist row, then tap 3 more Stories to load then scroll down to see all 3 thumbnails go into the the row for a total of 4 Stories loading, then the Stories finish loading, tapping on the bar opens the playlist in order including swiping to next person, close by swiping down then tap another person to open the Story, then swipe down to scroll through the full list. Press release:

  • Title: Tap & watch in order
  • Introduction: Introducing a new way to watch what you want and in the order you want. Simply tap on the friends you want to view their Stories to load, and keep scrolling down the Stories list. When your’e ready to watch, tap on the Stories bar to watch from the first tapped Story through to the last Story tapped, including with tap to advance or swipe to next person. Or tap on the specific thumbnail to open that particular Story that has loaded.

Snapchat today:

  • You can see that a person’s Story has no loaded because the text of the person’s name is gray, and the text of the person’s name is black when loaded and ready to view.
  • You can tap on a person’s Story and a loading indicator circles on the profile photo of the person.

Proposed idea:

  1. Start on Stories. Tap to load Friend 4’s Story.
  2. Swipe up twice until Friend 4 is above the visible area and so scrolls into a top bar area which stays there for all of the Stories you have tapped to load but are not available yet to view. Note that the name of Friend 4 appears there in the row.
  3. Tap to load Friend 6, Friend 10, and Friend 12.
  4. Then swipe up and note that the thumbnail for Friend 4’s Story moves to the right and the thumbnail for Friend 6’s Story goes into the top bar. Note that no names are shown.
  5. Note that the Stories complete loading. Tap on the gray bar which defaults to opening the first tapped Story which is Friend 4’s Story. Then swipe to go to the next person tapped which is Friend 6’s Story.
  6. Swipe down to close, then tap on the thumbnail for Friend 12’s Story to open. Swipe down then swipe down to scroll around the Story view while the playlist bar stays in place.

Comments:

  • Opportunity is to make easy for people to tap on Stories that take a few seconds to load while still using that time to find what other people to tap to load Stories.
  • Note that scrolling back up the list removes things from appearing on the playlist if those things have already been selected. Reason for this is to preserve the order of the list as the primary point, and to focus on the use of being able to quickly see what has loaded already.
  • A reason for not showing names in the top bar for loading is for reducing space needed, and focusing on the unique visual of what the person had already decided to tap on to view.
  • Alternatively, remove the playlist bar when the person leaves the app and returns to the app.
  • Alternatively, when scrolling up there could be a label that says “Playlist” where the loading appears, but I figure that is fine to keep separate.
  • Alternatively, when showing more than one tapped to load Story, use profile photos instead of thumbnails so clearer about who is selected.
  • I have posted related a related idea with a playlist, but a difference is that the earlier idea I put the playlist at the top of the screen so scrolling is required to access, whereas now I am putting the playback in one row. Here’s the playlist idea: (provide link)
