Idea: “Add to Story” button one-tap shares & “Add to Local Story” options after posting to reduce step to share (#48)

Purpose is to make easy to post to Story by tapping in place, and to only prompt to add to local Story after posting to your own Story so that way posting is as easy as possible for people who choose to not add to a local Story.

Start on Camera view, tap to make photo, tap to “Add to Story”, then tap to “Add to NYC Story” after that. Designed by D.J. Sherrets.

Snapchat today:

  • There is an “Add to Story” button, but it is set-up to the right of where the tap to make a photo/video button is.
  • In NYC and other cities with a local Story, tapping on the “Add to Story” button shows a prompt with the option to tap to “Add to NYC Story” and other local Story options if available, with the “Next” button in the lower right. So actually the “Add to Story” button isn’t a quick way to share to Story with friends because it still requires another tap. In places where there is no local Story, then there is no extra step needed.
  • While local Story is important, there is an opportunity to find a way to encourage posting to local Stories, while not adding a step for the perhaps many people who choose to only share to friends and not to the NYC or local Story.

Proposed idea:

  1. Start on Camera view. Tap to make a photo which shows photo made.
  2. Tap on “Add to Story” which opens the Stories page and shows the photo posted to “My Story.” Note that there are 2 links that appear under the just posted Story: “Add to NYC Story” and “Add to Concert Story.” “Add to Concert Story” is there as an example of how there may be multiple local based Stories available to post.
  3. Tap on “Add to NYC Story” and text appears showing that the Story has been added, and there is a link with the ability to undo.

Comments:

  • Opportunity is to enable people to focus on the core use case of sharing to Friends, while still providing a clear ability to share to local Stories with links that appear under where the Story is loading.
  • Alternatively, move the “Add to Story” button over so not directly in place of where the tap to make a photo/video is so that way people don’t accidentally post to Story if not ready yet, such as if people are tapping in place and if the app isn’t responding quickly for some reason.
