Idea: Chromecast your Snapchat Stories and enable to select order of people you want to watch their Stories by tapping “Add to Playlist” 4.28.2016 (#134)
Purpose is to enable people to primarily watch Stories on the TV and provide an additional feature when using the Stories app to tap to skip Story or tap to skip to next person’s Story. When in casting mode an “Add to playlist” button appears on each person’s Story, or just tap a person to cause that Story to play.

Press release:
- Title: Watch Stories on TV with a Playlist
- Introduction: Pick what you want to watch on Snapchat Stories, then watch in order with autoplay.
Snapchat & Chromecast today:
- The YouTube integration with Chromecast provides the ability to tap on a video which then prompts to either play video or add to playlist. That way there is an ability to control for setting up what you want to watch in order. This way no additional buttons are needed to be added to the app.
Proposed idea:
- Start on Stories list. Tap to connect to cast to the TV, then note that an empty playlist appears and Friend 1 is indicated as “Ready to play.”
- Tap play which opens Friend 1’s Story on the TV. Tap next person, next person, then next Story, then Close.
- Tap to Add to Playlist for 2 Stories which puts the first selected Story then the next selected Story to play after that, then scroll down and tap to play Person 9’s Story which automatically puts the Story at the top of the playlist.
- Watch the 3 Stories in the playlist that go to the end without tapping anything, then at the end the TV is back to not showing any Stories until the person taps to play.
Comments:
- Opportunity is to enable watching Stories on TV, including with the ability to manage in what order to watch with a playlist.
- A reason for a playlist is so the person can be sure about which Stories to watch particularly if the person is not going to be actively looking at the screen during that time.
- A reason to not do a playlist is that this adds complexity, and instead better to just play in order of available Stories. Here’s an idea I posted without a playlist: https://medium.com/dj-sherrets/idea-snapchat-enabled-with-chromecast-to-share-to-tv-only-shows-when-a-photo-video-is-loaded-in-b0a01dc8fbba
- Note that autoplay ends at the playlist if there are any Stories that were added to the playlist, otherwise the Stories keep playing through all available Stories.
- Alternatively, after playing the Playlist Stories, start playing the next available Story until the end. A setting could be available for this.
- Alternatively, similar to the YouTube integration with Chromecast, tapping on a person to open the Story could prompt to either play now or add to playlist. That way there’s no need to add buttons on the Story list for add to playlist. However, this also adds a step for each time wanting to add something to the playlist and so isn’t preferred particularly since on Snapchat Stories there may be a number of people selected such as perhaps dozens of people.
