Idea: Facebook or Instagram News Feed “List” tab with “Recently Updated” posted or “Recommended” for default ranked stories for ease of finding what you want to watch & tapping to view in Full view of News Feed 5.10.2016 (#146)

Purpose is to make easy to access a most recent list for people to view if wanted.

Start on the News Feed that is on the Full tab and tap to advance on another post. Tap List view to see the ranked Stories in order of appearing, then tap Recently Updated to see most recent posts, then tap on a post to view and scroll then tap back to List view, then tap back to Recommended on List view. Designed by D.J. Sherrets.

Press release:

  • Title: Introducing List of Recommended & Most Recent
  • Introduction: Want to pick out what posts to check out? Enjoy seeing ranked recommendations, and also want to see who posted most recently to view those? Simply tap “List” on the bottom bar then which starts with “Recommended” then tap “Recently Updated.” Tapping to view a Recently Updated post opens to the Full view so you can scroll to see more posts. Simply tap the right corner to advance to the next post that is available, and you can see the “# unread” indicated where the time ago is shown.

Facebook & Snapchat today:

  • Facebook defaults to News Feed which is full view.
  • Viewing “Most Recent” on Facebook is available under the “More” tab then tap “Most Recent.”
  • On Facebook, additional posts by someone are grouped and sometimes there is a link that says something like “& # more posts” that when tapped opens to those additional posts.

Proposed idea:

  1. Start on the News Feed default which is ranked posts in the “Full” view. Tap to advance to the next post of Friend 1.
  2. Then scroll down to Friend 4 then tap “List” view and note that “Recommended” is selected and Friend 4 by default appears at the top of the list since that is where you last were. Scroll down then scroll back up to the top.
  3. Then tap on “Recently Updated” which starts at the top of available posts in order of most recently posted. Tap on Friend 11 which opens to the Full view and shows the selection bar on top so you can easily get back to the Recommended view.
  4. Scroll down to Friend 2, tap to advance to the next Story, then tap on List view and note that Friend 2 is shown at the top because that was the last post that was mainly visible at the time.
  5. Then tap on Recommended to return to that and note that Friend 1 is shown at the top which is the same as when you last viewed Recommended. Or this may change if the ranking of Recommended changed since last viewing.

Comments:

  • Opportunity is to enable people to view Recently Updated from the List view so can easily check out posts that the person hasn’t seen yet.
  • Still provides one tap on the right edge to advance to the next post as I included in idea #145: https://www.facebook.com/djsherrets/videos/179693765758603/
  • Note that the Recently Updated” option doesn’t appear on the Full view when Recommended is selected when opening the app because of focusing on the ranking. So Recently Updated only appears if the person goes to List view and taps Recently Updated and then taps on a Story to view. And then that only appears for the session or perhaps day of use so the next day returns to using the space for showing ranked posts.
  • Alternatively, when scrolling down on Full view, do not show the top bar for Recommended and Recently Updated so use space for showing post content.
  • A reason to do this is to help people be active looking at recently made posts, particularly in the case of following a lot of content that may not otherwise be ranked to appear in the Full view of News Feed.
  • Note that where you were last in Full going to List is preserved. Note that ranking changes such as new posts appearing could partly change some of these rankings or most recent, and so new posts can be indicated as appearing such as with a gray background around the new post.
