Idea: Identify when photo/video received has sexual content to let user decide to not view on Snapchat (#30)

Purpose is to enable people to feel comfortable with what content they are opening and to avoid having to view the content and have a reaction to that content that may not be desired.

View chat, swipe to see media sent to you by Person 1, see a couple things that are “Explicit” and noting what the media may contain, long-press the photo and then tap to delete.Designed by D.J. Sherrets.

Snapchat & social products today:

  • Today sometimes people can send content to other people that is sexually explicit, such as sending a photo of their penis.
  • For Snapchat in particular, there is an idea that the service is used for sending sexual content. Though certainly there is a lot of media shared on Snapchat that is not sex related.

Proposed idea:

  1. Visit the chat section.
  2. Swipe to access the chat detail for “Person 1.” Note the list of media sent by Person 1 to you, including the 2 that are identified as “Explicit.”
  3. Long-press on photo that shows you can delete to ask customer care.
  4. Tap to delete photo, then note that the photo is deleted without you having to view the photo.

Comments:

  • Opportunity is to use machine learning to identify sexually explicit content without necessarily any person looking at the post and then identify that content such that the user can choose to delete the content without viewing.
  • There’s an opportunity for Snapchat to answer questions people have about cases where users get sent sexual content.
  • Alternatively, use machine learning to identify other kinds of content as well.
