Start on Ask to Answer view for question, then tap to add message, then add message and tap “Done”, then tap “Ask” to Person 4 and note that text says the ask and message were sent.

Quora today:

  • Ability to “Ask to Answer” people.
  • Ability to message someone if that person follows you.

Proposed idea:

  1. Start on the Ask to Answer view for the question. Note there is an “Add private message…” link and tap that link.
  2. Enter a message. Then tap done.
  3. Then tap “Ask” for Person 4, and note that the text says the ask and message included were sent.

Comments:

  • Opportunity is to say something that people asked to answer a question may appreciate or find useful to help decide whether to answer.
  • Reason to not implement this is that focus should be on any context about the question being on the question page.
  • Perhaps private message has no reply so focus is on answering the question.
  • And reason to not do this is because this otherwise could be used to send messages to people that don’t have access to receive messages.
  • Alternatively, the text could be changed to “Add a public comment…” so that way this is distinct from private messages but still enables the person to provide some context about why asking to answer the question. So the message could appear as a comment on the question.
