Idea: Include profile photos in Chat & note if there’s a Story available to view on Snapchat (#31)

Purpose is to increase ease of identifying who sent you something and be reminded of Stories to check out in case of not visiting the Stories view.

Visit Camera view, swipe to new design for Chat view including showing profile photos and new icons for sending and viewed indicators, then swipe to see the chat view for talking with “Person 1” that includes a tap to view Person 1’s Story. Designed by D.J. Sherrets.

Snapchat today:

  • Chat view has icons specific to sending a photo or video. Some people may not know which is the difference.
  • The icon for photo or video sending only shows the outline if that photo or video has been seen by the recipient.

Proposed idea:

  1. Start in Camera view.
  2. Swipe to go to the Chat view.
  3. Swipe on “Person 1” to go to the chat list of “Person 1.” This also shows all of the photos or videos or chats that have been sent to you by Person 1.

Comments:

  • Now uses an arrow to indicate when the last thing was sent by the person looking at the Chat view.
  • The check mark is used to indicate what has been viewed.
  • The name of the person is still bolded if there is at least one thing to be viewed.
  • Profile photos are now shown on the left side to help with identifying which is which person.
  • If you swipe to go into the chat section, then now there’s a new design.
  • The chat view for viewing a particular person such as “Person 1” shows a quick link to view the Story of that person if you haven’t viewed it, and below that the design of tapping to view a photo or video is standardized to the side of what you see in the Chat view or Story view. Reasoning is for consistency.
  • Note that the chat section has been redesigned so the prior indications of photo or video seen or not is no longer indicated.
Camera view, then swipe to the chat view, and then swipe to the detail view of the one-to-one interaction with Person 1. Designed by D.J. Sherrets.
