Snapchat today:

  • The app is set-up with Camera on load, Chat on left side, and Stories on right side.
  • This set-up works well as part of letting people use scrolling up and down on Chat and Stories while keeping swiping left and right to change screens.

Proposed idea:

  1. Opening app starts on “main view” with mini camera, preview of Chat on top, and preview of Stories on bottom. Swipe down to see Chat view.
  2. Swipe up to return to main view. Swipe up to see Stories view.
  3. Swipe down to return to main view.
  4. Tap to make a photo.
  5. Then tap “x” to return to main view.
  6. Tap outside Camera to expand to full Camera view.
  7. Swipe down to return to main view.
  8. Tap on Person 1’s Chat to view photo.
  9. Swipe down to return to main view.

Comments:

  • Opportunity with this design is to see if a smaller camera may enable people to still create media while being able to also access Chat and Stories without having to swipe.
  • Buttons for flash, flip camera, and make photo/video stay in place in order to avoid jarring animation of buttons and for consistency.
  • Alternative is use this same design but keep idea of swiping to left goes to chat and swiping to right goes to Stories.
  • Keeping Chat on left and Stories on right makes sense to keep so scrolling up and down can be maintained.
