View Stories, long press Person 4, tap to subscribe to get notified 4 hours before Person 4’s Story expires, then get a notification, and swipe on notification to view Person 4’s Story. Designed by D.J. Sherrets.

Snapchat today:

  • Snapchat ends notifications about Stories that some users haven’t seen. These notifications appear to be targeted to people who haven’t been active for that.
  • Some social products let you subscribe to get a notification immediately when a person posts.
  • Some social products let you subscribe to see posts of a given person at the top of your feed.
  • Snapchat strength is that Stories delete after 24 hours and so there’s some reason to share things live as well as to also consume close to when that content is created.
  • Sometimes though people don’t post especially frequently on Snapchat and so those posts can be missed. There’s an opportunity to notify people in case they don’t return to go view those Stories posts.
  • Opportunity is for Snapchat to re-engage viewers based on people.

Proposed idea:

  1. View Snapchat Stories. Long-press on “Person 4” to show settings for Person 4.
  2. Tap on “Not Subscribed to Stories” to change to “Subscribed to Stories” meaning you’ll get a notification 4 hours before any Story is about to expire in case you did not view in time.
  3. Tap outside of the box to close box.
  4. Phone is used throughout the day. Then notification appears showing that Person 4’s Story expires in 4 hours.
  5. Swipe right on notification to open directly to Person 4’s Story.

Comments:

  • Opportunity is for making easier for people to be sure to see posts by friend’s before the posts expire.
  • Alternatively notify about expiring Stories automatically for people a user tends to view their Stories.
  • Useful particularly to only notify 4 hours before so that way people don’t get notified if they are already active on Snapchat, but still hopefully enough time for the person to view the Story before expiration.
  • Consider notifying at least during the hours of 8am to 11pm, and so if there is an expiration in the hours of 11pm to 8am, then at least notify about those posts at 10pm the night before. Alternatively, there could be some ability to edit this or adapt this.
  • Alternative version is that any subscribed friend also tends to appear higher on the list of people to view on the Stories list rather than only chronological listing of people.
