Idea: Summary Story with ability to swipe to see particular person’s Snapchat Story in detail (#34)

Purpose is to enable people to get an idea of what has happened since they were last on Snapchat without necessarily having to tap to load every person, and without being limited to viewing just a few people if that’s all the time available. Opportuity is to increase how many different people users view Stories, as well as how many Stories are viewed as well.

Visit Stories, then tap “First Story of for All Friends,” then tap to advance to next person, then swipe up for Story #2, then tap to Story #3, then swipe down to return to first story, then tap to next person’s first story, then swipe down to return to Stories view. Designed by D.J. Sherrets.

Snapchat today:

  • You can only view the Story of one person at a time.
  • If someone’s Story hasn’t loaded, tap on that person’s name then the Story loads, then tap to view the Story.

Proposed idea:

  1. View the Stories page. Note the top Story listed is “First Story for All Friends” which loads only the first Story for all of your friends listed. Tap on that.
  2. Note that Person 1 has the most recent Story, so Person 1’s Story #1 loads. Note you can swipe up to go to Person 1’s Story #2. Instead, tap to advance to Person 2’s Story #1.
  3. Tap again to go to Person 3’s Story #1.
  4. Tap again to go to Person 4’s Story #1.
  5. Swipe up to go to Person 4’s Story #2.
  6. Tap to go to Person 4’s Story #3.
  7. Swipe down to return to “First Story for All Friends” which returns you to Person 4’s Story #1. Alternatively, this could take you to Person 5’s Story #1.

Comments:

  • Provide a summary of what’s been posted by friends to their Stories,
  • Only allow to view the first post of each person, so then it’s up to the person viewing to decide whether to go to view more posts of a given user. Reason is for simplicity and keeping strength of showing posts chronologically.
  • Alternatively, try selecting based on ranking. Ranking could be based on focusing on posts that have a person’s face in it, or has a high watch rate.
  • When you swipe up to see Person X Story #2 of a person, swiping down again could instead advance to the next person rather than returning to Person X’s Story #1. Reasoning for returning to Person X’s Story #1 is in case the user wanted to look at that Story again, as well as for consistency in returning to where the user was before swiping up.
  • Alternative is to use ranking and/or user input to decide which friends are included to load in the “First Story for Friends” list.
Tap “First Story for All Friends,” see Person 1 Story #1 then tap to go to Person 2 Story #1…
…then tap to Person 3 Story #1 then tap to Person 4 Story #1, then swipe up to Person 4 Story #2…
…then tap to Person 4 Story #3, then swipe down to Person 4 Story #1…
…then tap to Person 5 Story #1, then swipe down to return to Stories view. Designed by D.J. Sherrets.
