Idea: Tap to view video playing with audio and swipe up/down to view autoplay video with no audio then tap another video to active video with audio on YouTube or Facebook (#67)

Purpose is to enable watching a video with full view while also being able to look at other videos to decide what to watch next.

Start on list of videos such as videos posted by people you followed on a social network. Swipe up to advance to next autoplaying video, then tap on Video Title 3. Swipe down on bottom part to see autoplaying with no audio. Swipe down on Video Title 3 to close then swipe up then tap on Video Title 3 again and swipe up twice to Video Title 6. Then swipe down on Video Title 3 and swipe back up to Video Title 3 and tap on Video Title 3 again. Then tap on Video Title 4 to change the focus to Video Title 4 with autoplay and audio on. Video today:

  • On YouTube, swiping down on a video on mobile makes a small preview video so you can keep scrolling through videos such as to find your next video to watch. The video though is quite small.
  • On Facebook, tapping on a video in the feed then tapping on the video shows a button to minimize the video so you can scroll on your feed to keep reading while the video plays.
  • Tapping on any YouTube video on mobile loads the videos and has information under each video including Related videos.
  • Swiping down on a YouTube video makes the video smaller until you swipe far enough to cause the video to minimize to a small part of the screen.
  • Tapping on a video on a Facebook list of videos causes the video to come into focus. Swiping down returns you to the list of videos.
  • Tapping on a video in the Facebook feed opens the video into focus. Swiping down returns you to the feed list to continue scrolling to view more stories.

Proposed idea:

  1. Start on the list of videos with the top video autoplaying, and the other videos are not autoplaying. Swipe up once which causes a “paging” scroll meaning the next video appears in the same place at the top and starts autoplaying.
  2. Tap on “Video Title 3” which loads the video to the top in a viewer so that video keeps playing even as you swipe to view more videos. Note that the bottom video is autoplaying without audio because it is assumed that the person wants to see what video they may want to watch next.
  3. Swipe down on the bottom video to show “Video Title 2” autoplay with no audio.
  4. Swipe down on Video Title 3 to return to the list of videos.
  5. Swipe up once, then tap on Video Title 3 again.
  6. Swipe up on the bottom section a couple times to show Video Title 6. Then swipe down on Video Title 3 again to close.
  7. Swipe up a couple times then tap on Video Title 3 again.
  8. Then tap on Video Title 4 to switch the focus of the top from Video Title 3 to Video Title 4. Note that Video Title 4 then plays with audio.

Comments:

  • Opportunity is to enable people to get a full video of videos while still getting to browse for other videos they want to watch.
  • This provides ability to browse for more videos without having to minimize the video too much.
  • Provides focus on only one autoplaying video in the main video list, but then moves to other videos autoplaying as well since that is the focus on deciding what to find next.
