Start on Stories view, and swipe up to go to second page, then swipe up to go to the third page. Designed by D.J. Sherrets.

Snapchat today:

  • A strength of Snapchat is showing media in full screen by default.
  • However, the Chat and Stories screens still have scrolling. A benefit of scrolling is that the person scrolling can focus the eyes on one place as the content scrolls by. A problem with scrolling is that there can be more gestures needed to navigate around than otherwise would be needed with paging.

Proposed idea:

  1. Start on Stories view. Swipe up.
  2. Note that the second page of people with Stories scroll up, and says “Page 2” now. Swipe up again.
  3. Note that you can see page 3.

Comments:

  • Opportunity is to focus on paging for simplicity of getting around to what you think that you need to do.
  • One swipe scrolls to the next page of people. Allows for scrolling in the names of people as needed.
  • Paging appears at the top for quickly identifying which page you are on.
  • Opportunity is to create feeling of full screen content on every screen, including for lists.
  • Alternative is to allow for scrolling where opacity is 0% and transitions to 100%.
  • I think that paging may be used a lot more in the future on mobile because of the feeling that seeing a full page gives a sense of ease with navigation.
This shows each of the 3 screens of vertical paging above. As noted in this design, there are 9 pages. Designed by D.J. Sherrets.
