Idea: YouTube autoplay videos, “Related” one-tap or swipe away, and first “Related” video autoplays after video in “Subscriptions” finishes playing (#64)

Purpose is to make easy to view videos using autoplay, make “Related” easy to access, and continue to encourage playing “Related” videos with autoplay.

Start on Subscriptions feed, tap to see Related videos, swipe to see second Related video then swipe back up then tap to return to Subscriptions, then swipe twice to Video Title 3 and watch full video then the first related video to that autoplays. Designed by D.J. Sherrets.

YouTube today:

  • Videos in the feed and search do not autoplay.
  • Videos autoplay if you are watching a playlist.
  • Videos autoplay if you are in the viewer and finish watching the video.

Proposed idea:

  1. Start in feed of “Subscriptions” showing videos by people you subscribed to view videos. Tap on “Related” which opens related videos to “Video Title 1.”
  2. Swipe to see second related video.
  3. Swipe back to first related video.
  4. Tap to return to Subscriptions feed.
  5. Swipe twice to get to Video Title 3. Watch entire video, then note that the first Related video to Video Title 3 autoplays including by opening to the side.

Comments:

  • Opportunity is to focus on autoplay.
  • Note that there’s only one swipe to get to the next video.
  • More needed for this design to figure how people can do things such as keep the video playing while searching for more videos.
  • Only one video autoplays at a time so focus is on one video at a time.
