존중과 다양성에 관하여

안녕하세요. 장고 걸스 서울 팀입니다.

장고 걸스 서울팀은 #PyconAPAC 2016을 통해 다양한 분야에서 종사하고 계신 분들을 만나고 뜻깊은 행사에 함께 참여할 수 있어서 정말 기뻤습니다. 그러나 이야기를 나누면서 많은 분들이 저희 단체와 관련해서 다소 선입견을 갖고 계신 것을 알게 되었습니다. 사실, 저희는 장고 걸스 커뮤니티에 대해 자세히 알려드릴 시간이 별로 없었습니다. 이 때문에, 잘못된 정보가 전달되는 것 같아서 이 글로 저희의 철학과 신념에 대해 자세히 알려 드리고자 합니다.

이번 Pycon APAC 2016의 슬로건은 Respect, Diversity이었습니다.
장고 걸스는 여성들의 프로그래밍 학습을 지지하고 장고 커뮤니티와 파이썬 커뮤니티 내 “다양성”을 증진하고자 설립된 국제 비영리 단체입니다.

2015년 StackOverflow에서 시행된 developer survey에 따르면 전 세계 개발자 중 오직 5.8 %만이 여성하고 합니다. 이렇듯, 장고 걸스는 ‘장고 걸스 워크숍’을 통해 STEM 분야에서 상대적으로 소수인 여성 분들을 위해 프로그래밍 학습의 기회를 드리고 있습니다.

지난 2015년 10월 장고 걸스 워크숍을 시작으로, 장고 걸스 서울팀은 여성들의 참여를 통해 국내 개발 커뮤니티 내 다양성을 높이고 좀 더 나은 개발자 문화를 만들기 위해 노력하고 있습니다. 이를 위해 저희는 자원봉사자들과 워크숍을 진행하여 여성 분들에게 파이썬과 장고를 배울 수 있는 기회를 제공하고, 프로그래밍을 향한 열정과 긍정적인 에너지를 전달하고 있습니다. 또한 월례 세미나를 통해 성별, 종교, 학력과 관계없이 프로그래밍을 사랑하는 모든 분들과 함께 성장할 수 있는 기회를 만들고 있습니다.

장고 걸스 커뮤니티는 ‘프로그래밍 세계’에서 남성과 여성, 편을 가르고자 생긴 단체가 아닙니다. 상대적으로 소수인 여성들에게 기회를 드리고, 다수인 분들과 함께 좀 더 나은 개발 문화를 만들기 위해서입니다.

장고 걸스 운영진과 코치는 남성도 참여 가능합니다. 올해 열린 PyCon US 2016에서 Django 101 라는 주제로 발표한 Kenneth Love 역시 유명 장고 남성 개발자이며, 장고 걸스 포틀랜드의 운영자입니다.

장고 걸스 서울은 장고 및 장고 걸스 커뮤니티 한 부분으로서 Django Software Foundation이 발표한 다양성 성명서를 지지합니다.

장고 커뮤니티는 모두를 환영합니다.
장고 커뮤니티는 성 정체성 또는 성별 표현, 인종, 피부색, 민족, 나이, 신체 치수, 국적, 성적 성향, 능력, 지적 수준, 종교, 가족, 손윗사람, 가족 구성, 주류 문화, 하위문화, 정치적 견해, 교육 수준, 정체성, 개인의 식별과 관계없이 모든 사람들을 환영합니다. 또한, 사회운동가, 아티스트, 블로거, 공예가, 이미 개발자이거나 앞으로 개발자가 되고 싶은 분들, 디자이너, 창업가, 다큐멘터리 작가, 저널리스트, 시스템 관리자, 선생님, 평범한 사람, 비 이상적인 사람, 그리고 모든 사람들을 환영합니다.

장고 커뮤니티에서는 아기띠, 히잡, 키파, XXXL 티셔츠, 별 모양, 정치적인 배지, 무지개, 묵주, 문신 등 여러분이 생각하는 어떤 것 이든지 착용할 수 있습니다. 기타나 지팡이를 가지고 오거나 15년 된 오래된 노트북을 들고 올 수도 있습니다.

장고 커뮤니티는 보수적이든 진보적이든, 혹은, 자유주의자, 사회주의자이든지 — 각기 다른 견해와 식견을 가진 사람들이 함께 모이면 서로 배움의 장을 열 수 있다고 생각합니다. 그리고 우리는 개인적, 집단적 경험은 매우 다양하며 모두 고유하며 존엄성을 가지고 있음을 믿습니다. 우리는 전 세계 다양한 사람들의 의견이 이해와 어울려 토론한다면 멋진 일들이 일어날 수 있다고 믿습니다.

우리는 모두 웹 개발에 흥미와 열정이 있습니다. 여러분이 전문가 혹은 아마추어이든지, 거대한 프로젝트를 해봤든지 작은 앱을 만들어본 경험이 있든지, 오늘부터 코딩을 시작했든지 장고가 맨 처음 세상에 나올 때부터 장고 개발을 하던 개발자든지, 오늘 처음 장고 튜토리얼을 시작한 초보자든지 말입니다.

장고 커뮤니티는 신뢰를 바탕으로 훌륭한 커뮤니티를 만들고 싶은 의지를 가지고 있습니다. 모두를 포용하고 환영하며, 우리와 함께하는 이들을 지원합니다.
모든 사람들이 장고의 핵심적인 개발에 기여할 수 있으며, 장고 패키지 생태계의 일환이 될 수 있으며, 커뮤니티와 함께 할 수 있습니다. 우리 모두는 기술적인 경험도 중요하지만, 커뮤니티 경험이 더 중요하다고 생각합니다.

앞으로도 장고 걸스 서울 팀은 웹 사이트를 만들고 싶은 모든 여성들, 그리고 우리를 지지하는 친구 여러분들과 함께 하고 싶습니다.

Hi, This is Django Girls Seoul Team.

We met many diverse people and had interesting conversations during #PyConAPAC 2016. We are glad to join this event. While we were interacting with various kind of people, we got to know that couple of people had prejudices and misunderstanding about Django Girls.

Infact, we couldn’t get an opportunity to explain our goals and missions. At the same time some people were misinformed, therefore we would like to explain our philosophy and principles.

The main theme of PyCon APAC 2016 was Respect, Diversity. Django Girls also operates on the principles of Diversity and Respect.

According to 2015 StackOverflow developers survey, Only 5.8% out of all the developers worldwide constitutes women.

Django Girls Seoul is a part of the Django Girls movement which originated in Europe. We mainly organize free one or two-day workshops for women with no programming background to learn Python and Django with the help of coaches. Since last fall, we have organized django workshops and seminars for women. We want to inspire more women to start python programming and let them realize they have enough in themselves to become amazing developers.

Django Girls organization is not created to separate men and women in programming world. Rather its purpose to bring more amazing women into the world of technology who are often fewer in numbers, and create a better culture together with other people.

In Django Girls community events and workshops, men can join as coaches or organizers. One such example is famous Django developer and tutor Kenneth Love, who presented his tutorial Django 101 at PyCon US 2016. He is also an organizer of Django Girls Portland.

Django Community welcome people of any gender identity or expression, race, skin color, ethnicity, age, size, nationality, sexual orientation, ability level, neurotype, religion, elder status, family structure, culture, subculture, political opinion, education level, identity, and self-identification. We welcome activists, artists, bloggers, crafters, coders, wannabe-coders, designers, entrepreneurs, documentation writers, journalists, sysadmins, teachers, ordinary people, extraordinary people, and everyone in between.

We welcome you. You may wear a baby sling, hijab, a kippah, leather, an XXXL t-shirt, a pentacle, a political badge, a rainbow, a rosary, tattoos, or something we can only dream of. You may carry a guitar or walking cane or a 15 year old laptop. Conservative or liberal, libertarian or socialist — we believe it’s possible for people of all viewpoints and persuasions to come together and learn from each other. We believe in the broad spectrum of individual and collective experience and in the inherent dignity of all people. We believe that amazing things happen when people from different worlds and world-views approach each other to create a conversation.

We get excited about web development — from professional to amateur, from giant projects to simple apps, from the coder who’s been doing this since the day Django was conceived in Kansas to the newbie who just started studying the Django tutorial today.

Django community wants to transform itself into a community of trust and greatness. Emracing everyone, and doing it all together.

Django Community invites everyone to contribute, to the core Django code, the ecosystem of Django packages, and the community. We think our technical experience is important, but we think our community experience is more important.

Django Girls Seoul is willing to continue with all the friends who support us as well as women who want to create websites.
