09.08.2024. flash poem

i’ve been listening to chasing cars
while lying in the park by my apartment,
watching the planes go past.

it’s hard for me to talk about you to friends
in a way that really captures you,
so i keep you mostly to my thoughts.

but i wanted you to know
that you are a lot of my thoughts these days.

i’ve been thinking of a life
where we do all the simple things.

if i have a wish here, it’s doing that…
making breakfast together,
watching the sunset and the stars,
going to a yard sale or a concert at the fair,
talking about our days.

i’m looking for the simple things.
that’s what i want on my end…
and i will wait patiently
until we’re both ready
to come together like that.
