Courts to Sands: The Lady Spikers come back stronger than ever this S86
The UAAP Season 85 was a difficult season for the De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers as they ended their stint at fourth place. Now, the Lady Spikers are ready to seek revenge as they have one primary goal for the UAAP Season 86 Beach Volleyball – “to win.”
The Road to Victory
In preparation for the upcoming season, Team Captain Jenya Torres shared that the team has prepared meticulously for peak performance. The team recognized that the switch from indoor to beach volleyball requires significant changes in tactics and strategies.
Torres shared that “Sand training was a big change to us. Siguro since most of us have not been playing beach volleyball for that long, that’s where we just needed to adjust more pa.”
With only two players under the heat of the sun in beach volleyball, the team’s training revolved on developing endurance and stamina to ensure that they can play multiple sets effectively. Still, Torres believes that the current approach of the team is sufficient to address the physical challenges of beach volleyball.
Strengthening Bonds
The Lady Spikers acknowledges that a team’s success is not solely determined by individual skills as effective teamwork requires strong chemistry. Although familiarity among teammates is a solid foundation, the shift from indoor to beach volleyball introduced a new dynamic for the team.
Torres guarantees that the training helped in understanding how each player think on-sands. “Pinag-ikot ikot naman kami ng coach namin so nag-iiba din partners namin. I think this really helped us in getting to know each other most especially in terms of the way we play.”
With full confidence, Torres also shared that the Lady Spikers have good camaraderie on and off-court as the players have known each other for quite some time already.
Moving Forward
As the UAAP Season 86 approaches, the Lady Spikers are aware of the competitiveness of each participating team. “The level of competition is sure to be high and we are also sure that every team will be giving their best.”
Even though the team was unable to clinch victory last season, captain Torres is optimistic that with the preparations they have done, the team is ready to bounce back and claim the gold. As the Lady Spikers move forward, they guarantee their supporters that they will give their best to win.
“Thank you po for all the support and love you continue to give our team. We hope that you will be able to come and watch our games this season. See you there!”
