The UAAP Season 86th Cheer Dance Competition will roll out the mats later today, December 2 and the De La Salle University (DLSU) Animo Squad is getting loud as they prepare to take on the dance floor.

In an interview with Team Captain Lance Lacsamana, who’s in his last year and performance for the squad, he shares the tough effort that the team had poured into this season’s performance. According to him, the team has big expectations for themselves especially as they witnessed their improvement and confidence now, coming from last season’s competition.

Lacsamana shared that due to the UAAP lifting restrictions and protocols that were observed in past seasons, the Animo Squad has since allotted more time for training and conditioning. The captain also discloses that the team has a closer bond at present compared to last year. Now, it’s more apparent that the Animo Squad is tight-knit and better together.

As a senior member of the squad, Lacsamana shared how he has seen the development of the team individually and as a whole, as well as their growth in numbers with the majority of rookies coming in, regardless of division. There are the drummers, the yell commanders, and the cheerleaders we’ll get to watch soon. As stated by Lacsamana, the Animo Squad has become more compatible as everyone has now learned to connect within themselves. It had taken some time but they are now better than ever.

The captain proudly emphasizes that the squad’s condition is top-notch and that they had upped their levels in terms of the routine, style, stunts, and overall difficulty of their performance. This is brought by the intense and rigorous training the Animo Squad partakes in every day wherein the team focuses on improving and trying new things to show the public. Lacsamana encourages everyone to keep their eyes on the Animo Squad as they are up for a surprise.

Delving into the competition, the team captain also made it known that they are aware of what people say but claims that there are two sides of a coin, and no matter what, he will always be proud of what they do as a team, especially knowing the sacrifices and effort the team poured into perfecting their performance. Hard work topples these comments and the team is rather focused on giving their best as an act of gratitude to those who had supported them all the way and made it all worth it. It is through these people that they pull motivation and determination from — family, friends, coaches, and the Lasallian community. As their coaches remind them, “Be safe and pour your heart into everything you do.”

Lacsamana highlights that the Animo Squad will never be alone and that everything they do, they do it together. And while they hope to stand on the podium, the ultimate goal is to perfectly deliver what they had worked to build this whole year. It is their constant reminder to have trust in each other as there is no room for doubt to achieve this.

“No matter what happens, I am proud of what we’ve done so far because I’ve seen it from the ground and now, here we are.”

He also thanked everyone who had kept on supporting them and for always being there in their times of need, stating how it feels fulfilling that people are cheering for them when it is their job to do so. To them, Lacsamana promises, “We’re going to make you proud!”.
