DLSU Green and Lady Fencers conclude Day 3 with contrasting results

The De La Salle University (DLSU) Green and Lady Fencers struggled to outperform their opponents in the third day of the UAAP Season 86 Fencing Tournament, and the first day for team events at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Quadricentennial Pavilion (QPav).

The Green Fencers hold a 1–1–3 record and the Lady Fencers hold a 0–1–1 record respectively in the medal tally.

Men’s Sabre Team

The Green Fencers came close to reaching gold against the UST Growling Tigers in the Sabre event, but settled with a 37–45 score and a silver medal.

Despite reaching the finals with a close yet dominating 45–42 tally against Ateneo de Manila University, the Green and White struggled to overcome the home-based team, managing 37–45 and eventually bowing out of a gold medal.

Despite this, their finals top scorers Christian Buenaventura, Michael Gahon, and Miguel Camero edged out the Growling Tigers, scoring 37–45, 36–40, and 35–33 respectively.

Men’s Epee Team

Meanwhile, the Epee team were relegated to the bronze medal positions after losing out to the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons in the semi-finals with a 31–45 score.

The Taft-based team fell short of a chance to face the reigning champions, the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors.

Ensamtan Yakov, the team’s only current gold medalist, lead the way for the Lasallian offense, scoring 31–45 against UP’s Timothy Gonzales. However, the rest of the team was unable to accumulate enough to get past the forge of the Fighting Maroons.

Women’s Foil Team

The day ended unfortunately early for the Lady Fencers, who were unable to make it out of the elminations for the Foil category.

The Taft-based squad was overcome by the Lady Tigresses, with 34–45 reflecting the team’s contuing struggles.

Captain Cyrra Vergara was able to amass 34 points against Janna Catantan’s 45, leading the pack for the Lady Fencers. Following her were Krups Ednilag and Rebekah Lim, who ended with records of 32–40 and 31–34 respectively.

The Green and Lady Fencers continue their pursuits tomorrow, March 17, at the same venue. The Women’s Epee Team event will take place first at 9 AM, while the Women’s Sabre Team and Men’s Foil Team events will follow at 1 PM.
