The De La Salle University (DLSU) Green and Lady Fencers picked up the pace in the second day of competition at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Quadricentennial Pavilion and brought home four additional medals consisting of three bronze and one silver, pushing their overall UAAP Season 86 tally to five awards in total.

Day 1’s lone bemedalled Lasallian fencer, Edan Ensamtan, is now joined by Reindelle Lacerna, Enzo Mercado, Krupskaya Ednilag, and Cyrra Vergara in the list of DLSU duelers that have stood on the podium after multiple fierce bouts.

Vergara, the Lady Fencers’ team captain in her second year of UAAP competition, made it all the way to the Women’s Epee Individual grand finals where she faced off against a familiar opponent — defending champion Juliana Gomez of the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons. Cyrra found herself up by four, 10–6, against Gomez and was in prime position to pick up DLSU’s second gold medal of the tournament just five points shy of the gold. The battle would end in an extremely close manner with the scoreline reading 14–14 before Gomez nabbed the winning point to protect her crown. Vergara’s exceptional performance earned her a bittersweet yet highly commendable silver medal as DLSU’s highest placer of the day.

Ednilag, Lacerna, and Mercado on the other hand all gave outstanding efforts that placed them back on the podium in the Women’s Epee Individual and Men’s Foil Individual events, respectively, building on their success from Season 85 in yet another fruitful era of their collegiate careers.

Catch the DLSU Green and Lady Fencers back in action tomorrow, March 16, at the same venue for Day 3 of the Season 86 Fencing tournament. The Women’s Foil and Men’s Sabre team events will kick off at 9:00am, followed by the Men’s Epee team competition at 1:00pm.
