Green Archers claim dominant victory over GMC

The De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers triumphed against the Guang Ming College (GMC) Flying Dragons with a final score of 114–109 on Wednesday afternoon, May 8, at the Amoranto Sports Complex. The game showcased the prowess of the Green Archers, extending their winning streak in the third season of the Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup.

Kevin Quiambao emerged as the Player of the Game with 28 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

DLSU took the lead early on as the team worked as a unit, doubling the points of GMC at 3:17 with 22–11. The dominant first quarter ended with a score of 33–19, with a whopping 14-point deficit between the two teams.

Although the Flying Dragons began to catch up in the second quarter, the Green Archers maintained their lead through the canto. At the 5:34 mark, the Green and White lead with a score of 44–32, anchored by the efforts of the University of the Philippines (UP) transferee Luis Pablo, as well as Kean Baclaan, who forced GMC into crucial errors through his playmaking. A notable play in the second quarter was a monumental alley-oop from Baclaan to Quiambao, upping the score to 49–37, with Stephen Ebehem of the Flying Dragons answering right back, making the score 49–39. Eventually, the quarter ended with a score of 58–51 in favor of the Green Archers.

At halftime, Ebehem led GMC with 12 points and seven rebounds, countered by Quiambao with 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

La Salle began to pull away again in the third quarter, with Baclaan standing out once more with his ball distribution to Pablo, Quiambao, and Vhoris Marasigan. As the gap between the two teams raised to 19 points, the White and Red side called for time in the last two minutes. Despite this break in momentum, DLSU ended the quarter on top with a score of 87–69.

A crucial pivot point in the last ten minutes of the game came when Jacob Cortez fired a precise three-pointer to near the Green Archers to a triple-digit match, with 99 – 80 on the scoreboard at 5:25. DLSU cracked into 100 points at 4:44 with Marasigan’s successful free-throws. Despite the Flying Dragons’ best catch-up efforts at the very end of the game, DLSU managed a 114–109 finish as time ran out.

The Green Archers face familiar foes in the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws on May 12, Sunday, 4:15, at Enderun Colleges. They hope to maintain their upward trajectory and keep their spotless record.
