The De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers completed a 7–0 sweep in Group B of the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup, defeating the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights, 90–54, yesterday at San Juan Arena.

The Green Archers were in full gear when it came to team dynamics and communication at the start of the first quarter, as a seamless ball rotation among the players resulted in six assists points three minutes into the game. Following Evan Nelle’s three-pointer and a putback from Ben Phillips, DLSU got an early double-digit lead, 15–4 against the Knights.

With Nelle and CJ Austria firing consecutive three-pointers, together with Austria’s attack from below, the gap between the two teams continued to grow large. The Intramuros-based squad had difficulties closing the gap against the Taft-based squad, as seen in the big difference between DLSU’s 25 bench points and Letran’s 28 points total in the game.

As the Green Archers’ largest lead reached 37, the Knights faced a steep mountain to climb in the final quarter, as the former continued to outscore the latter. This might have taken a toll on the morale of Letran as three consecutive unsportsmanlike fouls were handed out to the Knights. Galman, who was driving up to score points for DLSU, was literally swept away.

At the leading edge of the boards is Joaquin Manuel with 15 points, followed by CJ Austria at 13 points, and Evan Nelle at 12 points — all coming from the three point area.

Winston and Nonoy weren’t able to play in the game as they prepare for Game 1 of the PBA D-League Finals against the Marinerong Pilipinong Skippers.

They will kick-off their Quarterfinals against College of St. Benilde Blazers on Tuesday, August 23 at the same venue.
