Green Archers open Pinoyliga campaign with a triumph against NU

The De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers opened up their Pinoyliga Collegiate Challenge Cup Season 3 campaign with a victory against the National University (NU) Bulldogs, 81–69, earlier today at the Amoranto Sports Complex.

The first quarter commenced with Earl Abadam igniting momentum for the Green Archers by sinking a three-pointer, making the score 3–6. Kevin Quiambao joined in with his three-pointer, bringing the score to 10–7 with 5:30 remaining on the clock. The NU Bulldogs likewise displayed a series of impressive shot attempts demonstrating as a three-pointer from NU leveled the game at 11-all. A dunk from Mohamed Diassana shifted the momentum in favor of NU, making it 13–16. La Salle managed to make another shot before Joe Gulapa tied the game, ending the quarter with the score at 18-all.

A powerful dunk from Diassana started the second canto, followed by a Patrick Yu layup, giving the Bulldogs the lead. But after a Coach Topex timeout, the Taft-based squad then embarked on a 5–2 run to shift momentum to La Salle. Raven Cortez added to the scoreboard with layups and free throws, while Reinhard Jumamoy contributed easy layup points amidst La Salle’s defense, bringing the score to 31–24. A graceful jump shot from Russel Ogana then extended La Salle’s lead to 37–26, indicating their intention to dominate the game. The Green Archers had a solid nine-point lead, but the Bulldogs countered with shots of their own as Omar John scored an easy jumper, cutting the lead to just seven, 37–30. However, Abadam swiftly answered back with a jumper, placing the score back to a nine-point separation. Jumamoy then contributed a three-pointer, which Yu responded with three of his own, just before the end of the quarter, 41–36.

The second half of the game opened with Mark David and Quiambao exhibiting strong offense, followed by a dunk from Diassana and Mike Philipps, 43–38. As the game’s pace slowed, Abadam nailed a three-pointer, giving the Green and White a six-point advantage. Quiambao then extended the lead to nine points with a three-point shot at the six-minute mark. Philipps responded with layups of his own. From there, Yu joined in the action, contributing a three-pointer. With one minute remaining, John maneuvered through the defenders and scored a layup before a JC Macalalag three concluded the quarter at 61–51, with a ten-point separation for La Salle.

In the final quarter, Cortez kicked off with a three-pointer for La Salle, bringing the score to 64–54. Kenshin Padrones followed up for the Bulldogs with shots of his own, along with layups from Santiago. However, Ogana responded with a floater from a Macalalag pass, leading a 4–0 run, 68–58. With five minutes on the clock, Quiambao scored an easy layup, extending La Salle’s advantage to ten points. Henry Aguinanne then stepped up defensively, blocking any further offense from NU. The game soon concluded with a Green and White triumph, 81–69.
