The De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Batters were shut out by the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Lady Softbelles, 0-6, earlier today, at the University of the Philippines (UP) Dilliman Softball field.

The Lady Batters, who competed without the presence of their team captain, as well as an injured pitcher, were held scoreless by the Lady Softbelles who scored in three different innings.

La Salle started off slow to begin the match as they were only able to get a couple clean hits before sides switched. UST on the other hand, was able to get on the board early after a hit by Christine Bautista allowed Erika Fernandez to find home plate to take the lead at the end of the opening inning, 0-1.

The second inning played out a bit smoother for the girls in Green, however they still remained scoreless despite finding players running to second and third base. Meanwhile, the scoring for the Lady Softbelles continued to ramp up as a flurry of hits from UST’s side enabled four more runners to find home, 0-5.

The same trend continued for the Lady Batters in the third through last inning, unable to get on the board. This time, however, they were able to tighten their defenses on their fielding turns, limiting UST’s runs to just one in the last four innings. Unfortunately, these efforts were unable to make up for their lack of offensive firepower, ultimately surrendering to the Lady Softbelles with a final score of 0-6.

The Lady Batters (1-3) look to bounce back in the second round of the UAAP Softball Tournament at the same venue.
