Lady Booters shoot down UST in dominant fashion
The De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Booters shot down the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Lady Booters, 5–1, earlier today at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Football Stadium.
Anicka Castañada, Alisha Del Campo and Tejanee Isulat served as the key players of the match as they were all able to contribute a numerous amount of goals.
The game started off with both teams trying to control possession of the ball in the first few minutes. Towards the 4:30 mark, the Lady Booters were able to put pressure on the UST as Del Ocampo made a shot attempt but missed. Two minutes later, UST’s Logostua was able to make the run and get in between two Lasallian defenders and score the first goal of the match, 0–1. The Lady Booters then tried to answer back through an attempted free kick by Castañeda at the 8th minute mark but this was blocked by the goalie. La Salle was determined to get a goal as they continuously put pressure against the Lady Tigresses as Samantha Toledo aimed for cross shot coming from a free kick but it ultimately missed. From the 15th minute mark onwards, Castañeda and Toledo showcased their attacking combination through multiple shot attempts but the Lady Tigresses defense were just too good. Moving towards the 29th minute mark a free kick was given to La Salle but this was also blocked by the goalie. However, Isulat recovered the possession and scored the equalizer inside the box for the Lady Booters, 1-all.
From there, La Salle’s intensity in attacking drastically increased further as they continuously put pressure towards the Lady Tigresses’ defense. In the 37th minute mark, Lacayan made a run on the wing and did a cross pass to Del Campo, who hit the tap-in, 2–1, giving the lead to the Lady Booters. In the final minutes of the first half, Castañeda tried to create a shot attempt but is blocked by the goalie just before the end of the half, 2–1.
The second half kicked off with the Lady Tigresses aiming to make a comeback by controlling possession of the ball. Throughout the match, both teams kept pressure on each other as defense were tight by both teams. During the 50th minute mark, Castañada hit the cross shot coming from a free kick, 3–1, giving La Salle a two-point lead. Two minutes later, a free kick was awarded to La Salle after Del Campo was fouled which Captain Bea Delos Reyes took and slotted in the ball, extending the lead to 4–1.
From here on point, the Lady Booters continued to capitalize on each possession. Without a doubt, La Salle’s scoring streak could not be stopped as during the 62-minute mark, Castañeda yet again made an assist to Del Campo who hit the goal inside the box, 5–1. Following this, the Lady Booters showed their dominant display of teamwork as they were able to create plenty of openings in their possession. Throughout the rest of the game, the Lady Booters controlled ball possession ensuring that UST was under pressure up until the end of the game. The Green and White soon clinched the dominant win, 5–1.
