23andMe, Ancestry DNA, Family Tree DNA raw data analysis tools in 2019- 10 Tools, FREE included
There are currently more than 20 million individuals who have taken their ancestry genetic test from companies like 23andMe, Ancestry DNA or Family Tree DNA (FTDNA). A fair number have even gotten a Whole Genome Sequence (WGS) done, which involves reading 100% of your DNA. This article presents user experiences with some genetic testing companies and raw data analysis tools.
Uploading your DNA raw data for further analysis
For those of you who have already taken a genetic test, downloading your raw data from the company website should be the next step. (Check out how to download your DNA raw data from 23andMe, Ancestry DNA and Family Tree DNA).
The raw data in itself is difficult to read and interpret. However, you can upload to third-party sites for useful health- and ancestry-related information. Some of these tools are free while others are available for a discount or at a nominal price.
Here is a list of raw data analysis tools:
1. Xcode Life- Try for $20
Price: Try several Xcode Life reports at the basic price. If you love the reports, then you can upgrade to premium packages.
Reports: Nutrition, Fitness, Health, Allergy, Skin, Precision Medicine, MTHFR, BRCA & Breast Cancer, Carrier Status, Personality, ACMG
Type of tool: Health and ancestry

Xcode Life, is a genetic testing company that was established in 2010. They currently offer the largest portfolio of health and wellness based reports in the industry. Raw data files from more than 25 major companies are accepted including 23andMe, Ancestry DNA, Family Tree DNA (FTDNA), Living DNA, My Heritage DNA etc.
2. Promethease
Price: $12
Reports: Health
Type of tool: Health
“Promethease is a literature retrieval system that builds a personal DNA report based on connecting a file of DNA genotypes to the scientific findings cited in SNPedia.”
Promethease allows you to upload your DNA raw data from 23andMe and Ancestry DNA. The reports are based on SNPedia, a Wiki-styled repository of user contributed information. Promethease presents SNP and phenotype associations for various genetic variants.
3. GEDMatch- FREE
Price: Mostly free
Reports: Ethnicity break-up and DNA matching service
Type of tool: Ancestry
“GEDMatch provides DNA and genealogical analysis tools for amateur and professional researchers and genealogists.”
GEDMatch is a DNA matching website. Here you can upload your raw data from 23andMe and look for DNA matches from several companies such as Ancestry DNA, FTDNA database or 23andme. GEDMatch was recently in the news for playing a key role in uncovering the perpetrator in the Golden-State murders.
4. Genetic Genie- FREE
Price: Free. Voluntary donations accepted.
Reports: Methylation (MTHFR) and detox reports.
Type of tool: Health
“Methylation and detox analysis from 23andMe results”
Genetic Genie is a free website for uploading your DNA raw data for methylation and detox reports. They currently offer two reports and accept DNA raw data only from 23andMe (upto the v4 chip version).
5. Nutrahacker
Price: $20-$85
Reports: Methylation, Detox, Fitness, Depression, Carrier Status, Celiac disease
Type of tool: Health

Nutrahacker provides DNA raw data based health, fitness and supplementation reports.
6. DNAFit
Price: $79-$149
Reports: Nutrition and Fitness
Type of tool: Health
“Discover how your DNA affects diet and exercise. DNAFit uses your genetic data from 23andMe to provide a holistic, personalised health and wellness solution.”
DNAFit provides diet and fitness advice based on DNA raw data. They offer a total of 24 reports covering diet and fitness insights, coaching choices and training plans.
7. Livewello
Price: $20
Reports: Gene variance report
Type of tool: Health
“Livewello will generate a Gene Variance report which contains information on thousands of disease related genes.”
Livewello accepts DNA raw data from 23andMe, Ancestry DNA, Family Tree DNA and Gene by Gene. They specialize in generating reports that contain information on gene variation associated with genetic diseases.
8. StrateGene
Price: Free to $45/report
Reports: Gene-based reports for selected genes
Type of Tool: Health
“With StrateGene, you see how clinically relevant genetic polymorphisms taken from 23andMe work and interact with one’s diet, lifestyle and their environment.”
Strategene is an initiative by Dr. Ben Lynch. The service started off as MTHFR reports, but now includes 11 “basic” genes and 11 “bonus” genes.
9. My Heritage DNA- FREE
Price: Free
Reports: Mostly DNA matching
Type of tool: Ancestry
“Our simple DNA test can reveal your unique ethnic background, and match you with newfound relatives.”
I wrote about the MyHeritage DNA ancestry service above. If you have your raw data from 23andMe or Ancestry DNA, you can upload to MyHeritage DNA to get your ethnicity break-up and to find DNA matches within their database.

Reports: Ancestry, Traits and DNA matching.

DNA Land accepts raw data from 23andMe and My Heritage DNA. They offer ancestry and wellness trait reports. They also provide DNA matching services.
