The love of George Nakashima design

The beautiful style of George Nakashima wood furniture can be quite alluring. The Japanese furniture maker was a leading innovator in creating a unique style. You can expect sensational love when viewing his finished wood art.

What Mr. Nakashima could do with a piece of deciduous to create that exclusive work is quite an achievement. His style reminds me of the modern period. His roots with Frank Loyd Wright shines through.

Not afraid to venture into the crazy world of working with twisted gnarled wood selection along with burls was its strong suit for Mr. Nakashima. For anyone who worked with these characteristics of the medium knows it to be quite challenging. The man of peace worked to incorporate uniqueness in his work.

I always was a lover of modern design and that era. In many road trips in the southwest area, I traveled on portions of the famous route 66. That being in New Mexico and Arizona. The magic of two-lane blacktop and towering red rocks always catches my eye. With that, the remnants of old buildings and signs dried out from the hot sun and desert winds. That era was during the modern period.

You can find an occasional throw back to that modern period here in Wisconsin, traveling on a lonely two-lane highway in the southern part of the state. You can find old gas stations that are now unique specialty shops.

I always wanted to incorporate a part of that exceptional Nakashima design into one of my sculptures. And I added this feature to Spiritual Balance. The base is exclusive to the style.

I will continue to add some of the uniqueness of Nakashima in future sculptures as well. The style inspires me and allows improvement of design. Because of the innovative design, the opportunity helps me discover and inspire.
