New Feature: Find My Accounts
As we’ve shared in the past, data breaches are on the rise. In the first half of 2018, more than 4.5 billion data records were compromised in data breaches. That’s 291 data records per second. Naturally, we’re seeing more and more cases of identity theft financial losses, and account hacks to go along with it.
All these data breaches make it even more important to secure your personal data.
At Dock, we want to help you better control your personal data online. We’ve already introduced our Data Breach Finder to help you check your exposure to previous data breaches. Now we want to help you secure yourself from the next data breach.
An Overlooked Vulnerability
If you’ve used the internet for more than a few days, chances are you have lots of legacy accounts that you no longer use. Whether it’s the account you created at an ecommerce site for one purchase, or an old gym membership, or a former cable company, you likely have troves of personal info in various places on the web.
You can think of this as “runaway data.” And the more of it you have, the more likely you are to be a part of the next breach.
To help you get a handle on your runaway data, we’re introducing a new feature:
Find My Accounts
Dock’s new Find My Accounts feature lets you manage the accounts you have across the internet. First, our app scans for accounts you may have forgotten, then presents them to you for review. You can then sort through them and choose the ones you want to keep. Finally, for any accounts you no longer want, you can send a GDPR-compliant removal request to delete your data.
(For any accounts you want to keep, we’ll monitor for any suspicious activity and let you know if they’re affected.)
