I have long maintained that Republican Presidential Administrations are great for music. Authentic stuff comes out when there are Republicans as Presidents. (A lot of garbage also comes out when Republicans are President…) Meanwhile, as pendulums go, when Dems finally get into office, the formula has ossified and music becomes copies of copies.

Body Count — No Lives Matter

Case in Point:
* Public Enemy achieved their greatest success under Reagan-Bush
* Rage Against the Machine was a product of the Bush Era, and though their other two studio albums came out during Clinton, it could be argued that he was a better Republican than many Republicans today are.
* Grunge is a product of the social decay of Reagan Bush
* More recently, the Strokes, the Killers and the White Stripes were all W. era bands who put out their rawest albums before Obama took office.

Meanwhile, what did we get as the Clinton Administration dragged on? We got Boy Bands, the Britneys, and pop-ska-punk out of the conservative parts of SoCal. Not bad music, to be sure, but not very cutting edge at all. Under Obama, we got trap music, club hits, and Katy Blasted Perry. It is such a desert out there now that Beyonce is seen as a militant… (Jesus), and all the ACTUAL Militants are either underground (Bands like PE are still making records, and Run the Jewels are definitely NOT mainstream by any stretch of the word) or just gone. Some music has been good, for sure, but what good music there is is kind of inaccessible for the Mass (I am talking about you St. Vincent!) Others, like Verucca Salt and Soundgarden are starting the 90s nostalgia tour, with more or less success (Verucca Salt more, Soundgarden less… :/)

So where am I going? Well, the first f — kin awesome single of the Trump Era has been officially released, and if this trend keeps up, we are in for MANY MANY more this year and into next as the “resistance” kicks into high gear and achieves critical mass in the society.

I give you now: Body Count’s No Lives Matter — listen and ROCK!
