Middie says she wants to wish everyone Merry Christmas and happy holidays — and good luck dealing with Trump in the next few years. (Picture taken by author)

My dog, Middie, talks, but I can read her mind. It’s an open question as to whether she can read mine. When I first started writing on Medium, I wrote several stories about her. I believe my first one was about how we weren’t getting along so well, so I took her to therapy. I will attach that one at the end here.

The other day I was watching a Trump event on my computer, with Middie lying at my side, her preferred position at such times — making her ears easily available for scratching. I was called to help out in the kitchen, so I left my computer on and circled back from time to time to check on her.

She knows she’s not allowed to touch my computer — and she didn’t, as far as I can tell — but each time I came back to take a look, she was intensely watching the screen, and I could pretty much read her thoughts.

I will try to represent them the best I can with a picture that our daughter, who was visiting, snapped of the studious Middie. Here goes:

Middie was really paying attention.
