Move over Christmas! A new holiday is coming to Canada.
I know you’ve all been counting the days until the second Sunday in May. You’ve been making lists, checking them twice, ready to find out if you can actually walk with a box of Cheerios between your knees.
And now the day is finally here. It’s the first annual Steal from Loblaws Day!
For those that don’t live in the 18th greatest country in the world (according to the UN), Loblaws is a major Canadian retail conglomerate, and a conglomerate is a big fat corporation that eats other big fat corporations. Over the last few months, posters have been appearing throughout major Canadian cities, encouraging shoppers to steal from all Loblaws owned stores on May 12.
Originally the protestors called for a month-long boycott of the major grocery chain in response to record profits in the grocery industry that have coincided with 30% increase in the cost of food. Unfortunately people need to eat, and their love for Miss Vickie’s Hint of Jalapeno Potato Chips ultimately outweighs their love…
